Awareness and practices on ecological solid waste management at Tapaz Central Elementary School
Abstract
This descriptive-correlation study research was conducted at Tapaz Central Elementary School, Poblacion, Tapaz, Capiz, school year 2022-2023, to determine the following: level of solid waste management awareness and practices of the respondents as an entire group categorized according to their age, sex, and grade level; and significant differences in the level of awareness and practices on ecological solid waste management; and significant relationship between the awareness and practices of the respondents in ecological solid waste management. This study used the standardized survey questionnaire taken from awareness and practices in Ecological Solid Waste Management authored by (Fecara, R, 2020) in determining awareness and practices. As an entire group, the awareness level of ages 12-14 years old are highly aware; both 6-8, and 9-11 years old are aware. For grade level, grade 4, is highly aware, grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, grade 5, and grade 6 are aware. The practices level of ages 12-14, 9-11, and 6-8 years old are sound practice. For grade level, males and females are interpreted as sound practice; according to grade level, grade 4 and grade 5 are interpreted as highly essential practice, grade 6, grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 are interpreted as sound practice. There are significant differences in the learner's level of awareness of ecological solid waste management of the respondents as an entire group according to their age, sex, and grade level. Thus, the null hypothesis which states that there are no significant differences in the respondent level of awareness when grouped according to age, sex, and grade is rejected.
There are significant differences in the respondents' level of solid waste management practices as an entire group and when categorized by age and sex, but no significant difference according to grade level. Thus, the null hypothesis, which states that there is no significant difference in the respondent level of awareness when grouped according to their age and sex, is rejected. There is a highly significant relationship exists between awareness and practices. Thus, the null hypothesis that there is no significant relationship between the respondents' awareness and practices in ecological solid waste management is rejected.
