dc.description.abstractThe study was conducted at Mambusao National High School, Tumalalud, Mambusao, Capiz during the second semester of the school year 2014-2015 to determine the personal profile of the respondents in terms of sex, age, and religion; find out the personal and professional qualities of english teachers that respondents preferred and observed; determine the english teaching strategies preferred and observed by the respondents; find out the personal and professional qualities of english teachers preferred and observed by the respondents when grouped according to age, sex, and religion; and ascertain the strategies in english instruction preferred and observed by the respondents when grouped according to their age, sex, and religion. The respondents of the study were a sample of 155 grade nine students in Mambusao National High School. The instrument of the study was a questionnaire divided into three parts. Part I consisted of the personal characteristics of the respondents. Part II is composed of items on the teaching qualities, both personal and professional of English teachers that are preferred and observed by the respondents. Part III is composed of questions regarding the teaching strategies preferred and observed by the respondents. Data gathered were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentage, and rank which were used to interpret data. Results of the study showed that females dominated the male; majority of the respondents were Roman Catholic and more of them belonged to the age bracket of 13 – 14 years old. The personal quality of English teachers preferred mostly by the respondents is “intelligence” and the observed personal quality is “punctuality and enthusiasm”. The professional quality preferred by the respondents is “Christian outlook and missionary spirit” and the observed quality is the “knowledge of the subject matter”. When grouped according to variables such as sex, age, and religion, the personal quality of english teacher preferred and observed by the respondents is “intelligence”. Both male and female respondents preferred and observed “explains and clarifies major idea. It makes use of exposition which maybe a narration or a description” as their teachers’ teaching strategy. In terms of sex, both male and female respondents preferred and observed “Involves actual use and manipulation of physical materials planned and carried out to completion by the students and teachers in a natural life manner” as their teachers’ teaching strategy. In terms of religion, both Roman Catholic, Iglesia ni Cristo, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Born Again respondents preferred and observed "Involves actual use and manipulation of physical materials planned and carried out to completion by the students and teachers in a natural life manner" as their teachers’ teaching strategy.en
