Kanta-hampang: children’s action songs and games in the municipality of Pontevedra

Abstract

This study aimed to determine what are action songs and games in the Municipality of Pontevedra. The participants of this study were pupils in the two Elementary Schools in Pontevedra, the Maximo Dais Elementary School, and Dona Victoria Cortes Dais Elementary School, during the School Year 2022-2023. Most respondents are 7-9 years old in the said schools. The children played their known action songs and games, and answers were documented by taking down notes and recorded using mobile phones. It was found out that the children’s action songs played by the children in the municipality of Pontevedra are the following: Sabado-Linggo, My Name is Pooh, My Name is Shiela, Moshi-Moshi, Nanay-Tatay, Bubuka ang Bulaklak, Wansapanatayn, and the games are Chinese Garter (new version) and Teks. There are steps and actions for each action song and equipment for games like cards for Teks and garter for Chinese Garter. Each action song has a theme that includes greetings, adventure, making friends, family, and love. These action songs and games that are fun and enjoyable develop physical, mental and social growth and development in children.
