dc.description.abstractThe study was conducted at the College of Education of Capiz State University Burias Campus during the first semester of the academic year 2017-2018 to determine the emotional intelligence and academic achievement of freshmen college students. The respondents of the study were a sample of 73 freshmen college students. A survey questionnaire composed of two parts was used to collate data. The gathered data were statistically analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, means, standard deviation, T-test, ANOVA, and Pearson Product Moment-Correlation. Results revealed that the majority of the respondents were female, belonged to the 1st and 3rd chronological order bracket, most of their families earned a monthly income of Php5,000 and below, and more of them took up BPED as a specialization. Moreover, respondents had more favorable level of emotional intelligence as an entire group and in terms of self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. Also, respondents had an outstanding academic achievement. Likewise, results revealed that personal characteristics of the respondents did not affect their levels of emotional intelligence and academic achievement. Lastly, it was found out that emotional intelligence and academic achievement are significantly related.en
