    Abstract
    This study was conducted to determine the socio-demographic profile of the respondents. The study entitled “Adaptation and Mitigation of the local farmers to the Climate Change in Balasan, Iloilo” was conducted on December 2022 with the following objectives 1) to determine the socio demographic characteristics of the local farmers in Balasan, Iloilo; 2) What is the adaptation of the local farmers in the Climate change? And 3) What is the mitigation applied by the local farmers?

    The procedure of gathering the data is that respondents must be a member of the largest farmer’s cooperative in Balasan, Iloilo. The data were collected with the use of three parts questionnaires, part 1 covered the socio-demographic profiles of the respondents including the age, gender, address, land area and estimated income per cropping. Part 2 is the adaptation of the local farmers and the last part is the mitigation applied by the farmers.

    The result of the study starting from the socio-demographic profiles of the respondents, the data presents that the age of the respondents is ranging to 51-60 years old and the estimated income is lying to 15,000 to 20,000 pesos vary to the land/farm area of 1 hectare.

    The adaptation of the farmers that they applied is effective to the climate depend to the data given majority of the respondent gave a strongly agree to the 3 following statements: improving of the irrigation efficiency, the appropriate tillage method, a better weed management these three are the adaptation usually used by the local farmers here in Balasan, Iloilo. Based on the grand mean with the average of 4.42 mark as strongly agree the local farmers is coping up to the climate change with the given ideas of adaptation.

    And the farmers mitigate to lessen the damages taken caused by the climate change. Here are the results or the mitigation applied by the local farmers of Balasan, Iloilo. These are the given statement, farmers, need a planning and zoning, reduce tillage to improved soil tilt to increase organic content and supporting farmers market and local product, the statement above is visually interpreted as strongly agree with the majority has a positive response. With a good mitigation strategy, the effects of climate change to the life of farmers will be minimized.
