Fishing strategies of fisherfolks in selected barangays along Tinagong Dagat
Abstract
This study was conducted to find out the fishing strategies of fisherfolks in selected barangays along Tinagong Dagat, reveal the cultural practices of fisherfoks, determine the common problems and solution encountered by fisherfolks, and determine the ethnolinguistic terms used by fisherfolks. There were eight (8) from the selected barangays of Pontevedra and President Roxas. The study adopted the descriptive-ethnographic design. It involved the researchers in contact with the informants in their natural setting to answer questions related to how they make sense of their lives. Based on the findings and interpretation, most of the fisherfolks in Tinagong Dagat acquired their strategies by catching fish through inheritance from their parents, taught by other fishermen and learned by themselves. Most of the fisherfolks have different strategies, but when it comes to preparation of their tools, they are the same. The cultural beliefs of fisherfolks in Tinagong Dagat. Fishing strategies of fisherfolks in Tinagong Dagat are manifested in the strategies of fisherfolks, like determining the different strategies and tools that they are using. They performed accurately by catching a different fish and crabs. However, their cultural practices before and after they go in fishing area.
