Critical thinking skills, proficiency and performance of grade 4 pupils in mathematics
Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the critical thinking skills, proficiency, and performance of Grade 4 pupils in Mathematics. Specifically, the researchers sought to find out the critical thinking skills, proficiency, and performance of the Grade 4 pupils in Mathematics. Furthermore, it sought to find significant relationship between the respondents’ critical thinking skills and their proficiency and the significant relationship between respondents’ critical thinking skills and their performance as well as the significant relationship between respondents’ proficiency and their performance in Mathematics. The pupils’ critical thinking skills in terms of observation, analysis, inference, and prediction was in low level. In general, pupils had a low level of critical thinking skills. While their proficiency was belonged to the beginning proficiency level, yet in terms of performance, pupils was performed well. Moreover, critical thinking skills and proficiency were related. There was a significant relationship between critical thinking skills and performance. It was found out that there was a weak positive linear relationship between proficiency and performance, which means they are related to each other.
