Reading comprehension and numeracy levels of grade VI pupils at San Esteban Elementary School
Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the reading comprehension and numeracy levels of grade VI pupils of San Esteban Elementary School. Specially, it aimed to: determine the socio demographic profile of the respondents in terms of their age, sex, school origin, occupational status of parents, and parents’ monthly income. Particularly on the profile of the respondents, majority of the respondents were females. Most of them were 11 years old with parents’ monthly income of 5,000-9,999.respondents occupational status got a percentage of 90.6 as an employed status with public school origin. The mean and standard deviation were utilized to determine the levels of reading comprehension and numeracy of grade VI pupils at San Esteban Elementary School. Frequency counts and percentage were used to find out the socio-demographic profile of the respondents.
This study was conducted at San Esteban Elementary School, San Esteban, Pilar, Capiz. Standardized test tool was used to determine the scores of the respondents, 25 items for reading comprehension tests and 25 items for numeracy test. The results shows that the respondents have high level when it comes in reading comprehension level and numeracy level.
