Reading comprehension and academic performance of intermediate pupils
Abstract
The study was conducted to find out what is the level of reading comprehension and the level of the academic performance of the intermediate pupils and their significant relationship. It covered 224 intermediate pupils in a public school in the province who were purposively chosen as respondents of the study. This research study utilized descriptive-quantitative design. Data were interpreted using mean, and standard deviation. Spearman’s rho was used to determine the relationship between the level of reading comprehension and academic performance of the intermediate pupils. The results were interpreted based on the level of reading comprehension and academic performance categories. Data revealed that most of the respondents are in instructional level of reading comprehension and very satisfactory level in their academic performance. There is significant relationship between the level of reading comprehension and academic performance of the intermediate pupils.
