    Problems encountered by gays in the Municipality of Pilar

    Abstract
    The main objective of this study was to find out the problems encountered by gays in the municipality of Pilar. More specifically, this study has the following objectives: 1. To find out the socio demographic profile of the respondents and 2. To find out the problems encountered by gays in the municipality of Pilar. This study was conducted in three (3) selected barangays in the municipality of Pilar, Capiz. Gays were chosen as the respondents for finding out the problems encountered by gays. Thirty (30) respondents were selected and distributed. There were 10 respondents selected from Casanayan, 10 respondents from Natividad, and 10 respondents from Poblacion.

    The findings revealed that out of 30 respondents 6 of 20% of the respondents were 15-20 years old, 21 or 70% of the respondents were 21-25 years old, and 3 or 10% of the respondents were 25-30 years old. Parents educational attainment (father) 7 or 23% were elementary level, 2 or 7% were elementary graduate, 2 0r 75 were high school level, 6 or 20% were high school graduate, 6 or 20% were college level, and 7 or 23% were college graduate. Parents educational attainment (mother) 6 or 20% were elementary level, 3 or 10% were elementary graduate, 3 or 10% were high school level, 7 or 23% were high school graduate, 6 or 20% were college level, and 5 or 17% were college graduate. Religion 30 or 100% of the respondents were Roman Catholic. Parent’s occupational status (father) 16 or 53% were employed while 14 or 47% were unemployed. Parent’s occupational status (mother) 12 or 40% were employed while 18 or 60% were unemployed. 10 or 33.33% of the respondents had a monthly income of 5,000 and below, 10 or 33.33% of the respondents had a monthly income of 6,000-10,000, 7 or 23.33% had a monthly income of 11,000-15,000, and 3 or 10% of the respondents had a monthly income of 16,000 and above.

    Additional findings revealed that with a total mean of 3.09 were neutral about the problems they have encountered. The respondents agreed to the following statements on the problems they have encountered: I experienced bullying in school, work in public (m-3.50), I experienced disrespect form other people (m=4.16), I experienced being underestimated by other people because of my personality (m3.60).

    Data further showed that the respondents were neutral in the following statement: I encountered gender identity discrimination (m=3.06), I experienced dressing discrimination (m=2.80), I encountered discrimination about the divine or religion beliefs (m=2.93), I experienced toilet discrimination (m=2.83), I experienced difficulties in acceptance and understanding of my identity (m=3.13), I experienced difficulties in the coming of process (m=3.00), lack of benefits from the government (m=2.90), I experienced discrimination of being feminine expression (m=3.10), I have received poorer services than others (m=3.00), I experienced that people around me have acted as if they were better than me (m=3.26), I have been treated with less respect than other people (m=3.33), I experienced treat of physical violence (m=3.20), I experienced treat of sexual violence (m=2.70), I experienced my family being ashamed of me because I’m gay (m=2.93), I experienced being laughed/ insulted because I’m gay (m=3.16), I experienced not being supportive financially, mentally, and emotionally by my family (m=2.76).

    They disagree on I experienced bullying in the social media like Facebook etc. (m=2.50).
