Effects of COVID-19 pandemic on fisherfolks in selected barangays of Pilar

Abstract
This main objective of this study was to find out the effects of COVID-19 pandemic in selected barangay`s of Pilar. Specifically, this study has the following objectives: 1. to find out the socio-demographic profile of the respondents and 2. to determine the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on fisher folks in selected barangay`s of Pilar. This study was conducted in three (3) selected barangay in the Municipality of Pilar, Capiz out of 24 barangays. Fisher folks were chosen as the respondents for the purpose of findings out the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on fisher folks. Thirty (30) respondents were selected and distributed. There were 10 respondents selected from San Ramon, 10 respondents from Natividad and 10 respondents from Binaobawan.
The findings revealed that out of 30 respondents, 25 or 83.33% were female, 5 or 16.67 were male, 17 or 56.67% were at the age bracket of 18-27 years old, 12 or 40.00% were 28-37 years old and 1 or 3.33% were 38-47 years old, 12 or 40.00% were high school graduate, 9 or 30.00% were college level, 5 or 16.67% were college graduate, 4 or 13.33% were elementary graduate, 14 or 46.67% have a monthly income of Php 5000 and below, 11 or 36.67% have Php 5001-10,000 monthly income and 5 or 16.66% have a monthly income of Php 10,000 and above.
Additional findings revealed that the respondents strongly agree with the emotional effect of COVID 19. The respondents strongly agree with the following statements; worried that my livelihood will get down, feeling paranoia that I always check my body temperature. Data further showed that the respondents agreed on the following statements; Feeling down and depressed, Scared not to sustain my family`s need, Afraid of being infected by COVID, Afraid not only for myself but especially for my family and love ones, I felt a bit of anxiety since I am daily exposed outside, I am afraid of catching the disease then unintentionally transmitting it to others, Shock and worried about my friends, family and spouse, about their health and my own health, and Afraid
that I might be one of the carriers of the virus since I`m a commuter and exposed to different people all the time when I go fishing.
