    English Proficiency among Grade 6 Pupils in Pilar Elementary School

    Abstract
    The principal purpose of this study was to find out the English proficiency among grade 6 Pupils in Pilar Elementary School. More specifically, it aimed to determine (1) the socio-demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, section, parent’s educational attainment, and parent’s monthly income, (2) the level of English proficiency among students in grade 6, and (3) the significant difference on the English Proficiency when the students in grade 6, and (3) the significant difference on the English Proficiency when the students are grouped according to age, sex, section, parent’s educational attainment and parent’s monthly income of the respondents. The respondents of this study were the grade 6 pupils in Pilar Elementary School, the SSC, SPJ, Diamond, Pearl, and Rock, S.Y 2023-2024. The research employed standardized questionnaire for the study. It was composed of two parts; the first part covered the Socio-demographic profile of the respondents; and the second part focused on the English proficiency test of the grade 6 pupils in Pilar Elementary School. The data gathered from the study were analyzed using licensed Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 29 software the frequency count and percentage, mean, standard deviation, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Post Hoc Tests, and t-Test. Findings showed that 79 out of the respondents were female and that the majority of them were 12 years of age or older. Regarding parents’ educational backgrounds, the mother had a greater number 42 college degrees, while the father had a greater number of 33 college degrees. The majority of respondents (98) have a parent’s monthly income of P10,000 or less. The results showed that 44.8 (or 59 out of 132) of the Grade 6 students had performed “fair” on their English proficiency test. In terms of the mother’s educational attainment, the father’s educational attainment, and English proficiency, the mean difference is significant at the 0.05 level. There is no significant difference in the age, sex, and parents’ monthly income of the respondents.
